Greetings Class of 1968 Federals:
Our classmate, Phil Parrish, passed away from cancer on July 24. He lived in Goldvein, VA which is not far from Fredericksburg. At FHHS, Phil was a basketball player and was on the varsity squad. He graduated from the University of Richmond and later pursued a career as a Virginia Game Warden.
His interests included Civil War History, and he was also well known for his extensive collection of well-aged bourbons. Phil is survived by his wife Kathy, two children and seven grandchildren. Please feel free to share your memories of Phil with the group.

I am deeply saddened by the news of Phil’s passing. If you will indulge me for a moment while I reminisce: He was my boyfriend during our junior year, for nearly all year. He was good lookin’, tall, preppy, funny, nice to me and everyone else, fun to be with and just a good decent person. We went to Sadie Hawkins and the prom, Hot Shoppes, submarine races, and just drove around. For Christmas he gave me my favorite Beach Boys album. I’ll never forget the night a bunch of us went to the Pohick Church cemetery. Was it Danny Hoehne who climbed up into the church bell tower and rang the bell? I was already scared just being in the cemetery, but when I heard the bell I wet my pants and ran. Of course I never told Phil or anyone else, ever. I’m so happy to see that he led a good and purposeful life with the woman and family he loved. I’ve always had sweet memories and a soft spot in my heart for Phil. Kathy, I’m so sorry for your loss. Good memory Karen!
How funny that the very beautiful Karen Barton would reveal her secret 'accident' at Pohick Church cemetery so many years later. Love it!
And you were so right about Phil....he was one of the good guys. I will cherish the memory of palling around with him and John England at Ferrum Junior College, where Phil also was a standout basketball player.

Very sorry that we have lost Phil. I got to know him my senior year through Bob Martin. Phils was a great guy, friendly, down-to-earth, and always seemed to be in a good mood. He was a great athele, and not a bad tennis player. Yes, one of the good guys.
And I too, succumbed to the lure of the Pohick graveyard one winter night with Stuart Toddl. I think it all started with Randy Garvin, from the class before us, who allegedly opened a crypt in there. At any rate, Stu and I didn't get very far in that night before the dogs started baying and we were running for our lives . Stu was pretty fast, but I gave him a run for his money that night. I can only imagine Phil, Karen and Danny in there.
Thinking of Phil, and the rest of you, brings back good memories. I'm glad I knew you all.
