ST. ALBANS -- Stephen B. LaRock, 53, passed away Friday afternoon, Nov. 29, 2002, at Northwestern Medical Center. He was born April 21, 1949 in Fukuoka, Japan, the son of Ralph and Jane (Corliss) LaRock.
Stephen was a Vietnam veteran. He enlisted in the Army and was sent to Fort Benning, Ga. where he was assigned to the infantry. He graduated from Jump School and Ranger Training and was the youngest Staff Sergeant in the U. S. Army. Subsequently, he was ordered to Vietnam where he served with distinction as a long range patrol leader behind enemy lines. On returning from Vietnam, he was assigned to the Presidential Guard Unit at Arlington National Cemetery.
After his discharge from the service, Stephen attended Slippery Rock College in Pennsylvania and later graduated from The School of Cosmetology in Annandale, Va. He was proprietor of LaRock's Barber Shop on Stebbins Street for the past 1- years. His health had been declining for the past several years.
