Herbert Donald Humes, 42, of Little York, died Tuesday, March 25, 2008, in the emergency room at Community Medical Center in Monmouth. Services are 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 29, 2008 at Fippinger Funeral Home, Aledo. Burial is in Little York Cemetery, where graveside military services will be conducted. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where a Masonic service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be left to the Little York Fire Department or the Oquawka Masonic Lodge No. 123 AF&AM. Online condolences can be made at www.fippingerfuneralhome.com. He was born Jan. 11, 1966, in Monmouth, a son of Richard and Frances Blake Humes. He graduated from Yorkwood High School and never married. Herbert was a member of the Boy Scouts of America, attaining the rank of Eagle. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps after high school and served in the United States and Japan, retiring in 1989. His memberships include the Oquawka Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite Valley of Moline and the Little York Fire Department. He was a former member of the Little York Lions Club. He enjoyed collecting farm memorabilia and attending farm shows and corn husking contests. Survivors include his parents, Richard and Cindy Humes, Little York; a sister, Melissa (Scotty) Morgan, Galesburg; brothers, David and Steven Humes, both of Little York, and Dennis Humes, Peoria, Ill.; three nieces, Marlena, Destiny and Emily; and his grandmother, Marianna Thorndike, Aledo. His mother, Frances Blake Huss, preceded him in death.
