James B. "Rusty" Collier, Jr. - Class Of 1967

James B. "Rusty" Collier, Jr., 56, went to be with his Lord, February 15, 2005, following a long courageous battle with cancer. Rusty was born June 10, 1948 in Mission, Texas to Sally and James B. Collier, Sr. He was deputy sheriff with the Live Oak County Sheriff’s Department, and a former deputy sheriff with the Duval County Sheriff’s Department. He was a member of the Sheriff’s Association of Texas, and the Muzzle Loading Rifle Association.

He was preceded in death by his father, James B. Collier, Sr. Rusty was a loving husband, father, and son.  The family wishes to express a special thank you to Dr. Albert Wood and staff at the Corpus Christi Cancer Center.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Collier of Lagarto, Texas; three daughters: Michele Bright of Houston, Texas, Shawn Frost of Houston, Texas and Crystal Collier of Corpus Christi, Texas; his mother, Sally Collier of Lagarto, Texas; one sister, Joan Roller of Fredrickburg, Texas; three brothers: John Curl of Boerne, David Curl of Fredricksburg, Texas and Michael Curl of Austin, Texas; four grandchildren: Audrie Ballard-Frost, Drake Frost, Dylan Bright, and Hannah Bright all of Houston, Texas.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 17, 2004 from noon to 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. with the family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 19, 2005 at the Holmgreen Mortuary Chapel in Alice.

Laura Snelling (Taplin) (1968)

A very sad note to this story...Rusty's mom, Sally, died a few days after Rusty and mourners gathered the next Saturday for her burial. After several years of helping to care for Rusty during his sickness...her job was done.
