AUSTIN, TEXAS — Police identified the victim of a fatal car collision this week while revealing more details on what ended up being the city's second fatal crash of the still-new year.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, Jan. 16, just before 4 p.m. at West William Cannon Drive and Ridge Oak Road in the western portion of the city. It's there that a gray 2003 Volkswagen Jetta failed to yield at a stop sign while attempting to turn westbound onto West William Cannon Drive from Ridge Oak Road, police said.

The Jetta collided with a black 2017 Chevrolet truck traveling eastbound in the inside lanes of West William Cannon Drive. The driver of the Jetta, Ann Bottenfield-Seago, 58, died at the scene, police said. According to date of birth data provided by police, the victim would have turned 59 in a month's time.

Police noted both the passenger in the Jetta and the driver of the truck were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. No charges are expected to be filed, officials said, but police continue to investigate. Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to call detectives at (512) 974-3761. Those with information also can submit tips by downloading APD's mobile app, Austin PD, for free on iPhone and Android.

The incident marked Austin's second fatal traffic crash of 2019, resulting in two fatalities so far this year. At this time in 2018, there were two fatal traffic crashes and three traffic fatalities, police noted.

Oct. 13, 1952 – Jan. 16, 2019

Ann Bottenfield-Seago, age 66, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday January 16, 2019. Born in Alice, Texas on October 13, 1952, Ann was a loving mother, sister and friend to all who knew and loved her.

Ann graduated from the University of Texas Austin with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1978 with a major in Art History. She also earned a degree from Southwest Texas State University. Ann worked for the School of Information at the University of Texas at Austin from February 1993 until August 2014.

For Ann, art was a true calling. She was adventurous, and loved painting outdoors or in the studio, or anywhere the weather permitted. She studied voraciously with some of the finest instructors in Texas and the US. In the Austin area, she was most appreciative of her time studying with Elizabeth Locke, Jennifer Balkan, Jill Carver, and Noel Robins. Generous with her advanced talent and her time, she often helped coach others in class who were struggling and less experienced. Whenever a good nationally touring artist would come to town to teach a workshop, she would be calling friends saying, “hey, let’s do this.” Among the national artists who directed Ann in workshops locally were Peggie Kroll Roberts, Nancy Tankersley, Hollis Dunlap, Sam Woodfin, Dominique Medici, Rusty Jones and Quang Ho.

She did not let the confines of Texas hold her back. She studied in France and Italy with Ian Roberts, Jill Carver, Kathryn Stats, and Julian Merrow Smith. In San Miguel de Allende, Mexico she painted with Thomas Jefferson Kitts and Anne Blair Brown. Those are just the artists whose names we can remember.

Ann was a longtime member of Plein Air Austin, and showed her paintings at Art on 12, Zeina Cook’s APropos Pop-up Gallery, the Travis Heights Art Trail, the West Austin Studio Tour, the East Austin Studio Tour, and the Wimberley Art Studio Tour. Clearly, she was hitting her stride as an artist, and we will now miss seeing all the beautiful paintings she should have completed.

Ann was proceeded in death by her parents John and Helen Bottenfield Sr., her husband James Lee Seago, her brother Richard Allen Bottenfield and her brother – in - laws, Paul Barger Sr. and John Forbes.

She is survived by her son, Cameron Seago (Elsa) of Austin, Texas, her two sisters Lannie Forbes of Arlington, Texas and Mary Beth Hinnant (Bob) of Largarto, Tx, her two brothers John Bottenfield Jr. and Tommy Bottenfield (Rebekah) of Arlington, Texas. Her nephews Paul Barger Jr. and Mark Barger, Sam Hinnant and neice, Kimberley Bottenfield Riveria(- Mike) as well as many other family members.

There will be a Celebration of Ann’s Life on Saturday, February 2, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Wimberley Community Center, 14068 Ranch Rd 12, Wimberley, Texas.
