Dorothy Jean Esch (Grossman) - Class Of 1966 VIEW PROFILE

Dorothy Jean Grossman, 47, of San Antonio, passed away Monday morning, May 15, 1995 in a local hospital.  Mrs. Grossman was born August 5, 1948 in Alice, TX the daughter of Alonzo and Clara Esch.  She was baptized in Immanuel Lutheran Church of Alice and was a graduate of Alice High School.  She was a lontime member of Zion Lutheran Church of Helotes where she was the head of the Altar Guild and a member of the Parish Education Committee.  Mrs. Grossman is survived by her loving husband, Thomas; daughter and son-in-law, Michele and Clifford Sipes; mother, Clara Esch; uncles and aunts, Bill and Florence Fischer, Mary Lee Franke, Oda and Elbert Buegeler, Louise and Jack Hoel; 15 cousins; borthers-in-law, Stanley and wife Patty Grossman, Jean Roy and wife Marie Grossman and James Grossman; numerous other friends and loved ones.  Funeral services will be coducted at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, May 18, 1995 in the Zion Lutheran Church of Helotes, Pastors Peter Manfred and Scott Sorenson (sic) officiating.  Interment will follow in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery.  The family will receive friends and loved ones from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Wednesday evening at Sunset Northwest Funeral Homes.  Arrangements through:

Grossman caring daughter, mother

Dorothy Jean Grossman was a caring daughter, wife and mother.  "I'm going to miss her thoughtfulness since we were so close together," said her mother, Clara Esch of Alice.  "I'll miss her winning smile and her visits with me in Alice."  Grossman died Monday of cancer.  She was 47.  Grossman, the only child of Alonzo and Clara Esch, was born in Alice, where she grew up.  She was preceded in death by her father.  As a young girl, Grossman was actively involved in her church.  "At age 12, she began playing the piano for Sunday school in Alice, as well as sing in the choir," her mother said.  In 1965 Grossman graduated from William Adams High School in Alice, then went on to receive a business administration degree from Draughn's Business College in Corpus Christi in 1967.  On July 5, 1969, Dorothy Jean Esch married Thomas Grossman in Dallas.  They had one daughter.  "We met at a drive-in restaurant in Alice," her husband said.  "It was a popular place during the 1960s and was the teen hangout where teens meet after school and during the evening."  For 17 years, Grossman ran a day-care center from her San Antonio-area home.  "She worked with infants to 2-year-olds and was extremely successful in running the day care since 1978," her husband said.  For more than 23 years, Grossman was a member of Zion Lutheran Church of Helotes.  Grossman was president of the Altar Guild and a member of Parish Education Committee.  She had several hobbies.  "She liked to do a lot of hand work, such as quilts and blankets," Esch said.  "She also enjoyed dancing and fishing.  Her husband added: "She loved working with roses in her flower garden."  Other survivors included a daughter, Michelle Sipes of San Antonio; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.  Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Thursday at Zion Lutheran Church of Helotes with Pastor Peter Manfred and Pastor Scott Sorenson officiating.  Interment will follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery under direction of Sunset Northwest Funeral Home.
