Maureen Kay Overath-Durham obituary

Maureen Kay Overath-Durham, 82, died at 4:15 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 2024 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville. She was born April 14, 1942 in Alton the daughter of the late Morris and Grace (Leeds) Parkins. She retired in 1995 as a school teacher with the Alton School District. Kay enjoyed gardening and working in her yard, traveling and spending time with her grandchildren. On September 12, 1961 she married Larry Joe Overath and he preceded her in death on April 26, 2001. On May 25, 2002 she went on to marry Terry Durham and he survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Mauri Leigh Overath of Belleville and Jill Anne LaFreniere (Andy) of Caseyville, two grandchildren, Lairra Unverzagt and Rubee Unverzagt, three step children, Brien Durham of Chandler, Arizona, Michaela Durham of Alton and Margaret Moreau (Thom) of Moab, Utah, and one step grandson, Tyler Moreau. Also surviving are many special nieces, nephews and godchildren, as well as three very dedicated and loving caregivers. Besides her first husband, Larry Overath she was preceded in death by and infant son, Matthew Morris Overath and two sisters, Rebecca Sue Olson and Evelyn Jean Winker. Kay was a beautiful lady inside and out. I'm glad she had such a great life, even after the loss of 

her first love.  Rest in peace dear classmate.

Priscilla Peterson (Harris)

Kay and I were in Mr. Hagan's Latin 2 class.  I would call her every night to check our translation assignment.  Don't think I would have made it through that class if it were not for Kay Parkins helping me.  She was an exceptional student who always had a great smile on her face.  I can only imagine what a great teacher she was.  My condolences go out to her family.

Larry Donahue

So very sorry to hear of the passing of Kay.She was the all american girl,

vibrant and with a first class personality. My condolences to the entire family.
