Charles Joseph Schildroth obituary, Godfrey, IL


Charles Joseph Schildroth, 83, passed away on July 8, 2025 in St. Louis, MO. He was born on December 17, 1941 in Alton, the son of Leonard and Eileen (Weigler) Schildroth.
He was a devoted husband to Virginia Nadine (Cato) Schildroth for more than 63 years.
He was a loving father to five cherished children, Dr. Charles J. Schildroth of Pensacola, FL, Ms. Tracey L. Feyerabend of Alton, IL, Mr. and Mrs. Brian (Carrie) Schildroth of Godfrey, IL, Mr. Joshua J. Schildroth of Riverton, IL, and Mr. and Mrs. Amanda (Scott) Rayfield of Godfrey, IL.
He was a loving grandfather to 15 grandchildren, Patrick (Crystal) Feyerabend of Troy, NY, Andrew (Kirstie) Feyerabend of Roxana, IL, Nicole (Keith) Hodges of Alton, IL, Ashley (Jose) Hernandez of Alton, IL, Jason (Ashleigh) Feyerabend of Bremerton, WA, Joseph (Denise) Feyerabend of Granite City, IL, Katherine (William) Tomerlin of Godfrey, IL, Rebecca Schildroth of Godfrey, IL, Chloe Schildroth of Orlando, FL, Ian Schildroth of Riverton, IL, and Nicholas, Makenzie, Christopher and Aspen Rayfield of Godfrey, IL.
Additionally, he is survived by 14 great great grandchildren, two loving brothers and sisters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard (Mary) Schildroth of Hopkins, MI and Mr. and Mrs. Michael (Lisa) Schildroth of Wildwood, MO and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Emma Schildroth, three brothers, Richard "Dick" Schildroth, Ronald "Ronnie" Schildroth, and John "Johnnie" Schildroth, and two sisters, Carol Sue Hailer and Sharon Yakubovich.
Charles worked for Jefferson Smurfit Corp. for more than 30 years. He was active in union negotiations, serving as Union President.
Charlie devoted countless hours to the community through the Godfrey Khoury League, the American Legion Baseball Program and more recently the Godfrey Park and Rec Baseball/Softball Program, where a field was dedicated in his honor in April 2016. Charlie loved every minute of his time spent coaching his children and grandchildren in baseball and softball. If he ever coached you on a team with Chuck, Brian, and Amanda, trust us when we say he never forgot you. He loved to tell stories of watching those players make great plays on the field.
He served his church, Messiah Lutheran, as an Elder and President of the Church Council. His faith in God was evident in all aspects of his life and he shared his love of God with family and friends.
Charlie and Nadine spent many wonderful years celebrating milestone events with dear friends.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, July 14, 2025 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton where funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 15, 2025. Pastor Willard Meyer will officiate.
Memorials may be made to the Godfrey Parks and Recreation Department Scholarship Fund.

Sylvia Schriner (Rothe)

I started first grade with Charles and went all through school with him.  He prob was not well know because he was a very quite individual.  He was very nice though and I was sorry to hear of his death.  Prayers for his family and friends.
