Edith Ann Howerton, 67, went to be with the Lord at 7:55 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at Christian Hospital Northeast.
She was born on Feb. 26, 1942, in Alton, daughter of Claude A. and Edith M. (Lawson) Wilderman.
Edith was employed at ATCOM for the federal government in the parts procurement department for over 30 years, retiring in 1992. She was of the Southern Baptist faith and loved to spend time outside in nature and be with her family and friends.
She is survived by one son, Otis Lee Howerton of St. Louis; two daughters and a son-in-law, Jane Beckman of St. Louis and Sally and Michael Hoffner of Edwardsville; eight grandchildren, Ryan Lee Sr., Danielle, Austin and Benjiman Howerton, Nicole, Jessica and Samanatha Beckman and Jami Hoffner; five great-grandchildren, Allysia, Ryan Jr. and Gavyn Howerton, Matthew Dixon II and Kylee Beckman-Tague; one sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Sonny Allensworth of Godfrey, and many nieces. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Claude A. Wilderman Jr.
Burial at Roselawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto. Memorials may be given to the National Wildlife Federation. An online tribute and guestbook may be found at www.staten-fine.com.
