COWAN, Tenn. — Gary Wayne Gilleland, 55, died Friday, Oct. 31, 1997, at Williamson
Medical Center.
Born March 22, 1942, in Alton, he was a son of Leonard E. and Edith M. (Swift) Gilleland of Alton.
He retired as manager for Bell South Telephone Co. He was a 1964 graduate of Millikin University in Decatur and was active in high school and college sports.
He married the former Sandra Wright. She survives. In addition to his wife and parents, surviving are a
daughter, Meg Gray of Gulf Shores, Ala.; a son, Matt Gilleland of Birmingham, Ala.; a sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Bob Mareing of O'Fallon, Mo.; a godchild, Mike Mareing of O'Fallon, Mo.
There was no visitation. Graveside services were conducted at Upper Alton Cemetery with the Rev. Jim Boyer officiating. Gent Funeral Home of Alton was in charge of arrangements.

Gary was another of the Washington Grade School gang.
He was so handsome and a really sweet guy.

I believe he passed away 11-31-97

Perry Coons

Gillie was one of the most likeable people I've known. He was always a pleasure to be with. He passed far too soon.

I remember Gary as tall, good looking and very nice. A likable guy. The sort of boy girl's Moms liked.
