            Roberta J. Young, 62, former area resident, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005. She was born Aug., 5, 1942, in Alton to Robert Emmitt and Martha Jane (Bacus) Whyers.

            She had lived in Sarasota since 1984. She was an LPN for more than 40 years and worked as a surgical nurse at Alton Memorial Hospital and Sarasota Memorial and Doctors Hospitals in Sarasota, FL. She worked for the Sarasota School Board at Booker Middle School and Phillippi Shores Elementary School. She was an active member and deacon of the First Christian Church. She will be missed by many.

            Survivors include her fiancé, David Rhodes, of Sarasota; a brother, Max Whyers of Alton; seven children, Eric Peipert of Hollidaysburg, PA, Catherine McFarlane of Godfrey, Michael Peipert of Alton, William Peipert of Colorado Springs, CO, and Annie Scheufler, Robert Peipert and Jeannie Holderman, all of Sarasota. She was a loving grandmother to 16 grandchildren.

            She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Marion Whyers.

            A memorial service was held at the First Christian Church. Memorial donations may be made to the First Christian Church, 7601 Clark Road, Sarasota, FL34241.

Bert was a fun loving, vivacious young girl. Always a smile for me. I bet she made a great nurse and brought sunshine to those in her care. Seven children and 16 grandchildren is a tremendous legacy. She was loved and is missed.
