Clarence R. Shaw, 67, died at 3:08 p.m. Thursday, April 10, 2008, at his residence. He was born Sept. 4, 1940, in Alton, the son of William and Clara (Howard) Shaw.

He attended Alton public schools. He was employed for the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of Transportation, retiring after 20 years of faithful service. He also served his country for several years in the United States Marines as a corporal.

He is survived by three sisters, Clara (Aaron) Lovett, Georgina Clark of Alton and Gwendolyn Shaw of Wheaton, Ill.; three brothers, William (Kathryn) Shaw of Aurora, Colo., Preston (Mary) Shaw and Joseph (Dorothy) Shaw of Alton; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Delores Shaw and Dorothy Knight; and four brothers, James, Herbert, Wilfred and Rudolph Shaw.

Visitation and services were at Harrison Funeral Chapel and Cremation Center of Alton, with the Rev. Charles Burton officiating. Interment was at National Cemetery in Jefferson Barracks, MO. Harrison Funeral Chapel and Cremation Center of Alton  in charge of arrangements.
