Clarence 'Les' Mitchell    

Clarence L. "Les" Mitchell, 63, died at 11:52 a.m. Monday, July 5, 2004, at Saint Anthony's Health Center in Alton.                                                                            

He was born April 22, 1941, in Alton to Clarence L. and Ruby R. (Carr) Mitchell.

He married the former Brenda K. Wilkins on Nov. 22, 1959, in Alton. She sur­vives.

A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, he served from 1959 to 1963. He was formerly employed as a journeyman electrician for the IBEW Local 649. He was a retired member of the IBEW Local 649 and a life­time member of the National Rifle Association.

In addition to his wife, surviving are his mother, Ruby Nolan; a son and daughter-in-law, Kenny and Sheri Mitchell of Kampsville; three daughters and sons-in-law, Missy and Darrell Kroeschel of Medora, Pam and Bob Cairns of Brighton, and Cindy and Richard Spurgeon of Toledo, IL.; 10 grandchildren; a great-grandchild; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Barb Mitchell of Quartzsite, Ariz., Roger and Betty Smith of Cottage Hills and Clint and Beth Smith of Hamburg, IL.; and a sister, Pat Koshinski of East Alton.

He was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Laverne Mitchell; his stepfa­ther, Clinton Smith Sr.; a sis­ter, Carolyn Mitchell Neece; and a brother-in-law, David Koshinski.

Visitation was Elias-Smith Funeral Homes and Crematory in Alton, where services also were held. Burial followed at Upper Alton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the charity of one's choice.

I remember Leslie. Somehow the song "The Wayward Wind" comes to mind when I think of him. I hope he got to do a lot of traveling with the wind at his back.

I remember Leslie from Milton School. He was a nice guy and he was handsome with blonde hair. I know he married Brenda Wilkens and sadly they are both gone.
Rest In Peace dear friends!! We shall miss you at the reunion.
