Roger L. Minton Jr., 65, died at 3:50 p.m. Monday, July 24, 2017 at Barnes Jewish Hospital. Born September 9, 1951 in St. Louis, he was the son of the late Roger Minton Sr. and Lois (Harrell) Minton.

Roger graduated from Southeast Missouri State University with his Bachelors in Education. He went on to teach for 30 years at Pinckneyville High School and later Marion High School where he retired in 2006. He also coached football, wrestling and track at both schools where his athletes were considered family.

He was a member of the Marion Elks Lodge BPOE #800 and his fraternity Sigma Phi Epsilon Southeast Missouri Zeta Chapter.

Roger is survived by a daughter; Kaleigh Minton (Marion, IL) and a son; Roger Minton III (Marion, IL), a brother; Richard Minton (Godfrey), four grandchildren; Alexander, Aiden, Alison, and Rhea Minton, a niece Melissa Raley (Chad) and a nephew Michael Minton (Danielle) and many other friends and family.

Visitation will be from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Monday, July 31, 2017 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton, IL where funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 1, 2017. Pastor Robbey Smith will officiate. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
