WHITTIER, NORTH CAROLINA — Robert "Mike" Purcell, 64, passed away at his mountain home in Whittier, North Carolina, Tuesday June 28, 2016. He loved Nascar and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Mike loved entertaining at his mountain home with family and friends and enjoyed traveling and listening to music. He was preceded in death by his father Robert Purcell.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Diane Diez Purcell; his mother and stepfather, Mary and Jerry Deem of Edwardsville, Illinois; five children: Sally Purcell of Texas, Michael (Joyce) Purcell of Ohio, Paula (Jarrett) Forest of Louisiana, Richard Babin of Maryland, Wayne (Elyse) Babin of Louisiana; six grandchildren: Tren Babin, Alexandra Babin, Marilyn Babin, Charlotte Babin, Spencer Crosby and Hunter Crosby; brothers and sisters: Mark Purcell of Virginia, Mary Jo Hammonds of Iowa, Laura Purcell of Iowa and Maureen Purcell of Iowa.

A Memorial Service will be held in Alton, Illinois, on Saturday, July 9, 3-5 p.m., at the Atrium (former Holiday Inn) 3800 Homer Adams Parkway. A second Memorial Service will be held in Baton Rouge, Louisiana pending arrangements.

Memorial donations may be made to the Illinois Amateur Softball Association (ASA) and sent to the following address: Don Brewer ASA State Commissioner 25 Westwood Lane Murphysboro, IL 62966. Checks should be made out to: Illinois ASA.

I had not seen Bob since our high school days.  Good guy.  Always a smile on his face.  Softball was his passion.  Rest in Peace Bob....

I didn't know Bob other than having a class with him. My condolences to his wife and family.
