Erma Hanson Obituary
Erma J. Hanson
Alton - Erma-Jean (Banks) Hanson, 66, peacefully transitioned into eternal life, December 27, 2022, at Alton Memorial Hospital. She was born February 8, 1956, in Alton, IL to Jeanett (Holmes) Jackson & Willie Banks Sr; both of Little Rock, AR. She was a devoted wife to Gregory (Bo) Hanson of Rockford, IL; he preceded her in death in 2009. Erma was a beloved mother and grandmother, adored sister, and a cherished friend. After graduating Alton Senior High School, Erma began working at Alton Memorial Hospital. In her 25 years as a dedicated employee, she touched many lives of patients, co-workers, and staff. She inspired many with her love of the Lord, her wisdom, and her work ethic. Although Erma became disabled and had to retire early, she was still a vibrant member of her community and active member of her church for many years at Open Door Fellowship. Erma's own door was always open to those in need.
Erma was ever resilient and lived a joyful life full of faith, family, and friends. Erma's sense of humor rivaled that of a professional comedian. She was a music enthusiast with a vast Motown collection gathered throughout the years. Erma was very particular, appreciated great food and was known to be a phenomenal cook. Erma Hanson is survived by her only son Shawn E. Banks, daughter in-law Mia T. Banks & grandson Zachary S. Banks of Limerick, PA. Siblings Angel Weber of Alton, IL; Willie Banks Jr of Alton, IL; Ethel (Holmes) Ware of Jackson, TN; James (Peter) Seward of Spencer, OK; Henry (Calvin) Seward of Jackson, TN; & Benjamin (Frankie) Seward of Alton, IL, and several nieces & nephews and dearest friend Penny Day and a host of close lifelong friends.
