WEST DEPTFORD, N.J.- Valarie A. Bagnell, 45, formerly of Godfrey, died Wednesday,, February 20,2002, in Thorofare, N.J.

  Born February 17,1957 in Alton, she was the daughter of Russell E. and Viola (Carter) Brenner.

  She married Charles Bagnell in 1979 at the First United Methodist Church of Godfrey.  He survives.

  A 1975 graduate of Alton High School, she received her bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri-Rolla in 1979.  She worked as a chemical engineer with the U.S. Naval Systems in Philadelphia.  She was very active in soccer and the South Pine Girl Scouts of New Jersey.  She also enjoyed cross-stitching, crocheting and was an avid football fan.

  Also surviving are a daughter and a son, Ashley Bagnell and Carter Bagnell both of West Deptford; a sister, Sherrie Brenner of Godfrey, her husband's extended family and extended family of her parents in the River Bend area; and a multitude of friends in Thorofare, Philadelphia and in the Riverbend area.

  Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Elias-Smith Funeral Home in Godfrey.  Private funeral services will be held Wednesday at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens Chapel in Bethalto.  The Rev. Bruce Baumberger will officiciate. 

  Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church in Godfrey.  River Bluff Girl Scouts in Glen Carbon, Crisis Food Center or a charity of the donor's choice.
