Kenneth Ramsey

January 22, 1957 - July 9, 2024

Kenneth Ramsey, aka "JET", was born on January 22, 1957 in Alton, Illinois to the union of the late Eugene and Rosalee (Burnett) Ramsey.

Kenneth Ramsey, sixty-seven, passed away peacefully to be with the Lord our Father and Savior on July 9, 2024 at 1:44 p.m. at Barnes Jewish Hospital Saint Louis, Missouri.

He attended Alton Public Schools and graduated from Alton Senior High School. He was also Alton Senior High Schools 1975 Home Coming King. He received many scholarships, offers and was accepted to New Mexico Junior College in Hobbs, New Mexico.

He was employed for many years at Laclede Steel Mill and later Alton Steel until his retirement due to his declining health. He was a member of the United Steelworkers Union and was proud of it. After his retirement, Kenny spent most of his days studying his bible, while getting his soul ready for the Lord and spreading his love throughout his family and friends.

Kenneth was baptized at an early age and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. Kenny later joined and became a member of "Tabernacle Missionary Baptist Church" of Alton, Illinois. Kenneth married Nettie Marie (Harris) Ramsey on May 18, 1979 in Alton, Illinois and celebrated forty-five years of marriage. To this union, they were blessed with three wonderful children and a grandson whom Kenny loved with all his heart.

Kenny would recall as a little boy, his grandfather, Wilmer Ramsey, telling him he would grow up to become a famous "Circus Boy" because he loved to express his talents by doing flips. Kenny could always be found playing around "Lincoln Gardens" with his lifelong friends or at "Salu Park" playing his favorite game of basketball. This unique athletic ability gifted to him earned him the nickname "JET" because he would remind his opponents, he was just that FAST; "Swoop, Swoop".

Kenny's legacy leaves behind: his beloved wife ~ Nettie Marie Ramsey; two sons ~ Jered Kenneth (Carrie) Ramsey of Granite City, Illinois and Nicholas James Ramsey of Chicago, Illinois; daughter ~ Vanessa Reneé Ramsey; grandsons ~ Niko Donté Ramsey-Walker of Alton, Illinois, Artemis and Calvin; granddaughter ~ Marissa of Granite City, Illinois; siblings ~ Carol Knighton of Alton, Illinois, Bro. Michael and Sandra Ramsey of Alton, Illinois; sisters ~ Patricia Martin of Tennessee, Kathleen Ramsey of East Alton and Bro. Timothy Edwards of Dupo, Illinois; several tribes of nieces, nephews and cousins; best friend ~ Harry Gilchrest, Walter Harrison, Jr. and Pastor John Buford.

Kenneth was preceded death by his father and mother, Eugene and Rosalee Ramsey; sisters, RuthAnn Ramsey and Dorothy (Ramsey) Moore; niece, Nicole Knighton; nephew, Tyler Slack; parental grandparents, Wilmer Ramsey, Elizabeth (Morgan) Hart and Betty Ramsey; maternal grandparent, Louis Burnett and Nellie (Brooks) Burnett.

Kenny, aka "JET", will be remembered in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. Kenny was known for his quick wit, his infectious smile and his kind and compassionate spirit. Kenny would always greet strangers and friends with hello and a smile. Kenny enjoyed being outdoors with family and friends. If he was not on the basketball court, watching basketball or football games with the fellas he'd be in the kitchen popping his famous popcorn, frying his crispy chicken, or in the backyard barbecuing, frying fish or sitting at the table playing, "Bid Whiz", running Boston's and Yelling, "Next!"
