CYNTHIA REED
ST. LOUIS — Cynthia Lorraine Reed, 59, of Alton, passed away Monday, September 19, 2016 at Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
She was born August 7, 1957, the daughter of Oscar T. and Lois Lorraine (Lewis) Reed Sr. of Dorsey.
Cindy was known as a people person with a great sense of humor. She had worked at the Alton Telegraph writing feature articles, at Olin Mills in Granite City as a photographer, and at the Alton Steak 'N Shake as a car hop. Cindy was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals and the Tennessee Ladies Volunteers Basketball team. Her passions in life included music of all types, fishing, gardening, and animals, especially rescue animals. She received her degree in journalism from SIUE.
She is survived by her partner of twenty-eight years, Marilyn Gibbons of Alton; two sisters and their spouses, Laura and Jim Fowler of Godfrey, and Pam and Jay Cates of Brighton; three stepchildren, Colleen, Michael and Kevin Gibbons; four nieces and nephews, Alicia Flach, Kris Reed, and Morgan and Cooper Cates. Cindy was "Mimi" to Dustin Gibbons and Trey Gibbons. She is also survived by her good friends, "The Sapphic Sisters"; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, countless friends, and extended family who will miss her dearly.
She is preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Oscar "Butch" Jr.; her grandparents; and several aunts and uncles.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
