Message: I received a message from "Pinky" Newberry about Raymond Smith.  It was in the Altoona Mirror last week and I missed it.   Thank You Pinky.  See the obituary below:  It does not mention if he was in the military, if anyones knows, please let me know.

Raymond R. Smith, 74, Denton, Md., died Sunday at Memorial Hospital, Easton, Md.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Edward Thomas Smith and Marie Margaret (Trexler) Smith.

Surviving are his wife, Barbara R. Smith of Denton, Md.; two stepchildren: Ruth G. Prattis (Greg) of Norfolk, Va., and Gary A. Greenly (Judy) of Goldsboro, Md.; three brothers: George in North Carolina, William of Altoona and Philip of Alum Bank; and four sisters: Rita Miedl of Greensboro, Md., and Ruth Novak, Mary Snowberger and Dolores Perkins, all of Altoona.

He was preceded in death by three brothers: James, Charles and Thomas Smith; and two sisters: Mildred Stafford and Dorothy Smith.

Raymond had lived in Denton, Md., since 2000, coming from Frederic Lodge, Townsend, Del.

A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements are by Moore Funeral Home, P.A., Denton, Md.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests sending memorial contributions to a charity of one's choice.

Raymond Smith, you were a special friend as we traveled though school together. Thanks for being in our class of 1960 and may you forever rest in peace. My prayers and thoughts are with you.    Dan Calise
