Elizabeth Ann ‘Liz’ Hemond

July 21, 1951 – Sept. 1, 2024

Elizabeth Ann “Liz” Hemond, 73, of Imler, formerly of Altoona, passed away Sunday at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown, after a brief illness. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Roger and Pauline (Bonanno) Hemond.

She married Chet Finnegan in 1989.

Surviving are her husband of 35 years; a son, Andrew Harrison; two sisters, Marie Lutchko (Leonard) and Margaret Rockwell; two sisters-in-law, Anita Finnegan and Cynthia Mauk (Chip); two brothers-in-law, Scott Finnegan (Amy) and Rick Finnegan (Monica); two grandchildren, Hannah and Hayden; many nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Paul Hemond; a nephew, Neal Lutchko; and a brother-in-law, Jesse Finnegan.

Liz was a 1969 graduate of Altoona Area High School, and earned an AST in Occupational Therapy from Mount Aloysius College. She dedicated many years to providing exceptional care to patients in hospitals and nursing homes.

Liz was a joyful and outgoing individual who lived life to the fullest. She was passionate about traveling, particularly to Sicily, Italy and Quebec, Canada, where she indulged in her love of genealogy. She was an avid gardener, bird watcher, cook and photographer. Liz also found joy in painting, dancing and music. She was always ready for a concert or gathering with friends, and loved sharing her recipes. She loved her grandchildren.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, 2024, at Sorge Funeral Home & Crematory Inc., Hollidaysburg, where a memorial service will immediately follow at 4 p.m.

Liz Hemond was a beautiful person inside and out! She loved life and that showed in her smile and joy of so many things! I am so thankful to have graduated with her and to be called a friend! May you be dancing and rock& rolling to all your favorite tune from the 60's, 70's, and 80's too! Will miss you my friend and some day we will be rock & rolling together! ❤️

Friendly, socialble ... got to know her better at the reunions and social gatherings for our class.. Very sad to hear of her passing... hope to see you again in our high school stair well in heaven....
