
Joseph L. Dumm

Joseph L. Dumm, (aka Capt. John Smith), 71, of Hollidaysburg, peacefully passed away Sunday evening at his residence, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Edward and Sally (Wilkins) Dumm.
Joseph married Maryanne Burger on Oct. 14, 2000, at St. Michael the Archangel, Hollidaysburg.
He is survived by his loving wife; four children: Matthew Dumm and his partner, Jessica, of S. Lake Tahoe, Calif.; Kelly Dumm and wife, Lauren, of Altoona; Joseph Hargis and fiancee, Chelsea, of Pittsburgh; and Eli Hargis and wife, MacKenna, of Charlotte, N.C.; seven grandchildren: William, Weston, Theodore, Aurelia, Rylin, Kaisen and Koen; his brother, Richard Dumm, and husband, Rod, of Pittsburgh; a sister, Rebecca Dimino, and husband, Glenn, of Norristown; and his faithful dog, Maka.
Joe was preceded in death by his brother, Michael.
He was a 1971 graduate of Altoona Area High School and a graduate of Penn State with a degree in Mechanical Engineering.
Joe retired from Cenveo in Williamsburg as a quality control supervisor after more than 25 years of service. Post-retirement, he was an usher at the Altoona Curve baseball games.
Joe was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg.
He enjoyed the outdoors, cross-country skiing and was an avid Penn State and Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Joe loved grilling, the culinary arts and traveling the world. He truly loved watching his children play sports and spending time with his family.
A celebration of life will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date.
