With peace in my heart I want you all to know that Mitchell peacefully passed on this morning at 3:30. He is comfortable and we know that God is taking care of him now. We thank you all for the kind words and prayers

He had a peaceful passing, as he had been battling cancer. He was the kindest, most loving man I have ever met in my life. Mitch was a graduate of Princeton University with a BA degree in philosophy. He retired after 33 years of government service, 20 years in the army as a special forces soldier, an infantry officer, and finally as a military intelligence officer, and 13 years as a civilian intelligence professional with the DIA. After retiring, he returned to CENTCOM as a civilian contractor. He led efforts and intelligence capability in support of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. He was awarded the Army special forces tab and master parachute badge. If you feel safe in your home, this is one of the men you can thank for that! In 2011 he was selected as the DIA representative to the national security fellows program at Harvard university. Our love for this man was endless. He is now with God, and we are so happy to have had him in our lives.

"And he ain't gonna jump no more!"

Peace, brother. When I get there, we'll take a C-130 and jump together. And we won't need to worry about grabbing the grass.

I'd like to express my sadness on the recent loss of, Mitch Gearhart. To his wife, Maggie, and to his family, know that you are in my thoughts. I also want to honor and celebrate how he lived his life with determination, gratitude, and an enduring dedication to growth, both personally and professionally. I have been inspired by the great courage he showed facing his illness. In talking with Mitch in the months prior to his passing, he expressed remarkable acceptance about the possibility of his death, while still hoping for a better outcome. In his words, he stated," I have lived a great life". These are the words of a man who learned to live life on life's terms, with grace and love.

With fond memories, your old friend,  Mark
