Carl A. Lutz, 60, Altoona, died Thursday afternoon at Altoona Regional, after an apparent heart attack.
Mr. Lutz was born in Altoona, son of the late Ernest R. and Nancy Jane (Stein) Lutz. He married Mary Roberta "Robbie" Cowan on Aug. 25, 1973, at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament. She died on May 15, 1992.
He is survived by four children: Brian A. (wife, Julie) Lutz, Matthew A. (fiancee, Ashli Weyandt) Lutz, Rebecca L. (husband, Brian) Camberg, all of Altoona, and Julie A. (husband, Joe) Smith of Bellwood; loving partner, Michele Himes-Cogan, with whom he resided; three siblings: Nancy McMahon of Altoona, Kenneth W. (wife, Cheryl) Lutz of Lansing, Mich., and Rene (husband, Gary) Nungesser of Palm Bay, Fla.; and a sister-in-law, Debbie Lutz of Duncansville. Carl is also survived by five grandchildren: Nathan, Collin, Grace, Hailey and Carter; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Ernest R. "Cooney" Lutz; and a sister-in-law, Kathy Cowan.
He was a member of Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona.
He was a self-employed painting and wallpaper contractor and owner of Carl A. Lutz and Son, with 30 years of service. He previously worked for Conrail.
Carl was a 1971 graduate of Altoona High School.
He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and enjoyed spending time with his and Michele's children and grandchildren, hunting, fishing, boating, traveling, cooking and NASCAR.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at Jones Funeral Home, where a Vigil for the Deceased will be celebrated during the visitation. A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona, with Monsignor Robert C. Mazur officiating. Committal rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
