James Calvin Mallow

James Calvin Mallow, 68, of Altoona, died Wednesday morning at Conemaugh Nason Medical Center, Roaring Spring. He was born in Altoona, a son of the late Harold Ralph and Carolyn Ruth (Clugh) Mallow. He married Patricia Thomas on May 4, 1985, in Altoona. She preceded James in death on May 28, 2016.

Surviving are three children: a daughter, Nicole Ubrig (Steve) of Phoenix, Ariz., a son, Shawn P. Jarrett (Sue) of Altoona and a daughter, Nicole Rucker, of Altoona; five grandchildren: Connor, Collin, Angela, Justin and Mikalah; two great-grandchildren, Michael and Charlotte; two brothers, John and Jay Mallow; a special friend, Robin Nixon; a close friend, “Uncle Dave”; and numerous extended family members.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Corey.

James was a 1971 graduate of Altoona Area High School with honors from Altoona GACTC Auto Shops. He also received a diploma from General Motors Technical School in Monroeville. James was a mechanic and part owner of Mallow’s Service Center.

He was a member of Hiram Lodge, No. 616 F&AM. James was also a member of Jaffa Shrine of Altoona, the Jaffa Antique Car Club, Court No. 70 Royal Order of Jesters and Colotic Miztli No. 91 Order of Quetzalcoatl.

James enjoyed camping, fishing, boating and antique cars.

A gathering of friends and family will be held from 10:30 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30, 2021, where a Masonic funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. for James. Immediately following are funeral services at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Avenue, Altoona.

The family requests all COVID-19 protocols and precautions be followed for safety, including mask usage and social distancing.
