David L. Schmid, 62, Altoona, died Tuesday at UPMC Altoona.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Alois H. and Anna (DeFranisco) Schmid.

Surviving are a sister, Deborah A. Root (David Buck), and a niece, Susan A. Farabaugh and husband, David, all of Altoona; a nephew, Brian Root and wife, Becky, of Dover, Pa.; and three grandnieces and grandnephews.

David was a 1971 graduate of Altoona Area High School and a member of the Bavarian Aid Society. He enjoyed fishing.

A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family.
