George L. Wertman, 68, Bellwood, went to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday afternoon at Penn Highlands-DuBois. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Wilbur and Bessie May (Meek) Wertman.

On May 3, 1991, he married Pamela Jean Weiand at St. James Lutheran Church, Altoona.

He is survived by his wife; a son, Stephen Johnson of Bellwood; three daughters: Rachel (Nathan) Pease and Sarah (Paul) Oakley, both of Dillsburg and Sarah Goethe of Harrisburg; five grandchildren: Erika and Elaina Pease, twins: Andrew and Matthew and David Oakley; a sister, Cathy L. Wertman of Altoona; niece, Christina (James) Walleck-Ford and their son, Alex of New Jersey; and a nephew, Shawn (Denise) Walleck, and their daughters, Emma and Hannah of Florida; father and mother-in-law, Myron and Eleanor Weiand of Bellwood; three brothers-in-law: Tim (Darlene) Weiand of Bellwood, Robert (Alana) Weiand of Crystal River, Fla., and Phillip (Andrea) Weiand of Jackson, Miss.; two sisters-in-law, Dorinda (Peter) Weiand Walsh of Cartersville, Ga., and Joy (Brad) Weiand Schmidt of Tipton.

George was a 1971 graduate of Altoona Area High School. He studied two years at Altoona School of Commerce and a year at Penn State University School of Engineering.

He was an amazing chef and hospitality specialist at Bell Mansion/Bell Mansion Bed and Breakfast in Bellwood, where he and his wife were co-owners/operators.

George attended Grace Alive Ministries, Altoona. He loved going to church and reading Scriptures. He enjoyed the language arts and was a very talented composer of poetry and lyrics.

George was a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, and he loved the freedom of America.

He passionately loved his wife, Pamela, and his children, grandchildren, sister, nieces and nephews; but he loved the Lord Jesus Christ most of all.

Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, 2021, at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home Inc., Bellwood; and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 31, 2021, at Trinity United Methodist Church, Bellwood. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with Pastors Tracey Plessinger and Stewart McClellan officiating. Interment will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.

The family suggests that contributions in George’s memory be made to Grace Alive Ministries, Altoona.
