Justin York Gifford, 42, of Gruver, formerly of Amarillo, died Sunday, July 28, 2013.
Rosary will be said at 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spearman. Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 31, 2013, also at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial will be on the family ranch north of Gruver. A mass of remembrance will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 1, 2013, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Amarillo. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Justin was born January 16, 1971, in Amarillo to Liz and Gene Gifford. He graduated from Amarillo High School in 1989, and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in business and finance at the University of Texas at Austin where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta and the Silver Spurs. He then earned an MBA from Texas Christian University.
Justin married Holly Venneman on May 17, 1997 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Amarillo. He traded beef, cattle and commodities at his office in Spearman and was instrumental in completing the wind energy project for Zephyr in Hansford County. Justin was currently Rotary Club president in Spearman and served on the Gruver Rodeo Association board. He was a member of Knights of Columbus and also was very involved with Cub Scouts with his sons.
He loved Sacred Heart Catholic Church where he faithfully delivered the Holy Eucharist to the homebound and the Catholic residents of Hansford Manor. Justin was looking forward to a mission trip for the church in Nicaragua in the summer of 2014. Most important to Justin was spending time with his wife and four children. He was a devoted father and loved to take his boys camping, hunting and fishing; and, he loved to ride horses with his daughter. He was a true servant to the Lord by helping others and serving his family and his community.
Survivors include his wife Holly, and their four children, Gus (10), Joe T. (8), Hattie Catherine (6), and Mary Elizabeth (14 months); his parents, Liz and Gene Gifford of Amarillo; a sister, Kelly Field and husband Sam of Baton Rouge, Louisiana; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Linda and Joe T. Venneman of Gruver; his brother-in-law, Klint Venneman and wife Traci of Gruver; a sister-in-law, Kim Cooper and husband Clint of Colleyville; and many nieces and nephews.
