I remember the day when Fran died in the car accident. I was out with some friends on a weekend and heard it on the radio. She and Judy Bass were in an auto accident in a Chevy Covair. Judy had back injuries but Fran died. Several kids from school went to the funeral. It was so very sad. She was my friend and it was hard to deal with. After all, we were only 16. I don't know what happened to Judy after our junior year, but she too was my friend. I still think about this sometimes when I go past the area where the accident happened.

I was supposed to get to go with Fran and Judy that day - just riding around - it was so cool that someone was old enough to drive!  But my Dad called me in to work because an employee  did not show up.  Dad owned K-N Rootbeer and I carhopped there.  This was a very important lesson for me to learn - how close I came to being involved in such a tragic accident but fate sent me elsewhere.

Judy Bass and I remained friends as we both moved to North Dallas.  Then, for different reasons we ended back in Amarillo.  She met and married a really nice guy (cannot recall his name).  I followed her back to Amarillo to get my emotions in check after losing my boyfriend of 3 years in a car/train accident.  Judy and I got together alot but lost touch when I went back to Dallas in 1975.  Everytime when driving into Amarillo from Dallas which would probably total over 1000 times in 40 years, I always look over at the cemetary and say a prayer for Fran.  Yet in a way, I think she may be the lucky one and is up there praying for us.  She left this world as an innocent angel.
