Remembrance for Jeff Langley by his family

(date of death September 26, 2024)

(Obituary will be shared when available.)

Amarillo, TX

"Pop, we can't believe you're gone, you have been the rock of our family for the longest time.  The feeling that you are gone is still surreal.  You taught us all what unconditional love meant.  You were the best Grandpa, Dad, and friend anyone could ever ask or wish for in life.  We will never forget that.  You've always been a hardworking man, sitting and listening to your stories of how you used to pick cantaloupe in the fields at 13 in California, to becoming a reporter going live in the field.  Typing up your reports making your way up to the news station to becoming a news anchor and journalist.  You loved a good mystery and figuring out the story behind things which led you to becoming the editor over the Pampa and Odessa newspapers.  You did all this without a college degree and showed us with hard work and persistence, dedication and drive, you can live your dreams.  Your next adventure was to become an Ombudsman, for the Amarillo Globe News, which you did for ten years.  You truly enjoyed being the spokesperson for the unseen and unhead.

But your best role and favorite was being a father and a grandpa, Pop, which we would refer to you later as in life and nothing else.  You were loved by so many, by your friend group from the time you were in middle school that you played in a band with...to your family and everyone that loved you.  You can not be replaced.  There is a hole that will never be filled.  Love you, Jeff Lynn Langley, you will never truly be gone because you will live inside our hearts forever.  Now, go play some Blackjack with your Grandma Peggy.  I know you are smiling down on us from Heaven.  You were a one-of-a-kind Rockstar living life the way you wanted, ambitious and never settling for anything less than the best for your family.  You could sing like George Jones aned Axel Rose.  If you were in front of a microphone or there was someone with an instrument around, you would light up the room with joy and laughter from the cheer you brought people when you would sing.  You were loving, kind, and grateful.

Now that the kids have helped write the obit, I wanted to say that you will forever hold a place in my heart.  You were a dad to my oldest son when he didn't have one.  You taught him how to play baseball and coached all his teams.  You gave hell when needed and love most of all.  You encouraged my dreams and I was always so proud to have you as my dad.  I can't believe you aren't here anymore to talk to.  I will miss you forever."  written by RaeAnne

I am heartbroken to hear about Jeff's passing. We had a lot of laughs together and spent time together in the two years after high school. When the film "Deliverance" came out, Jeff and I learned many of classic lines from the movie and spent entire days using them in hysterical rants throughout the day. It is heartwarming to read the wonderful obituary his daughters wrote. It shows what a great human being he was throughout his life. R.I.P. Jeff! You will always hold a place in my memory. Condolences to his close family and friends.

Jeff would come up and sing a few tunes with our band- Gary Thurmond and the Naked Floydadans. I think Sedated was a favorite. Even gave us a nice write-up in the paper. Sorry to hear of his passing.
