FORT WORTH — Steven Harry Cowgill, 48, of Fort Worth and formerly of Amarillo, died Monday, May 13, 2013.

Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Winscott Road Funeral Home, 1001 Winscott Road in Benbrook. Arrangements are by Winscott Road Funeral Home of Benbrook.

Steve was born Oct. 29, 1964, in Amarillo to Barbara S. Cowgill and Robert H. Cowgill. He graduated in 1983 from Tascosa High School and studied technical theatre at Amarillo College. Throughout his life he enjoyed camping, fishing, spending time visiting with his family, friends and his three dogs, Maggie, Sable and Ashley.

He was preceded in death by his father and a brother, James W. Cowgill.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Cortez-Cowgill of Grand Prairie; his mother, of Fort Worth; a daughter, Brittany Cowgill of Delaware; a son, Spencer Cowgill of Fort Worth; two nephews, Preston and Alec Furrow of Amarillo; a niece, Jessica Anderson of California; an aunt, Kay Turrentine of Fort Worth; four cousins, Dr. Ronald Smith of Arlington, Donald Smith of El Paso, Brian Smith of Amarillo and Brent Smith of Fort Worth and their families; his mother in-law, Josefina Prado of Grand Prairie and her daughters, Josephina, Maryanna and Rachel, and their families.

The family suggests memorials be to The Shriner’s Hospital for Children; or a favorite charity.

Steve was a very close friend of mine. We acted in a number if shows together. He was a very talented performer. He will be missed. -- John Wright

I was in theater with Steve we even hung out occassionally on the weekend nd attended mid-night movies. After graduation we did loose contact I can't believe we both live in the DFW area. I am so sorry to hear of his passing he was a great guy.
