Michael Miller

Michael Stephen Miller, 48, of Maxwell died at his home Friday, October 22, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. He was diagnosed as having a rare form of kidney cancer a year ago. 

Mike was born February 24, 1962 in Lansing, Michigan to Martin and Marsha (Stephenson) Miller. He graduated from Ames High School in 1981, Lincoln Technical Institute in 1983, and from the Police Academy in 1992. He was united in marriage to Roxanne Caple on October 30, 2001. Mike was a Deputy Sheriff of Story County for 20 years who loved his work. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, his home in the country, looking for artifacts in the creek, his dogs, and his family and friends. Mike was respected and beloved by all who knew him. He was a member of the Maxwell United Methodist Church, the Iowa Sheriffs Association; Iowa Crime Prevention Association where he served as president, and the Ames Moose. 

SCHOLARSHIP (posted June 2011)

There is a scholarship fund setup in Mike's name at the Iowa Crime Prevention Association.  Mike was the president of the ICPA last year and was active in the organization in previous years. This scholarship fund plans to give two, $500 awards each year to children of fallen or ill officers to assist with their college funding.
