John and I were in & out of classes together throughout elementary/jr high school. I had such a tremendous amount of respect for John's intelligence, and great sense of humor. At Maplemere especially he was so patient with me if we shared group desks or projects. As luck would have it this would happen more often then not (probably to his dismay ;o), yet John carried his weight many times over. Task-oriented and focused was the name of the game. He graciously accepted my youthful (immature?) wit back to him, that while he was smarter than me, I was older: a fact that seemed so much more attractive 50 years ago! He never forgot, & in our yearbook shared with me his great sense of humor by acknowledging that indeed I was older but by just a few months. He was a good man, and indeed left a wonderful mark on our class. Thank you, John, for raising us all up to reach for higher goals, to step outside our comfort zones, as we moved on into responsible adulthood. I learned a great deal from you, my friend. May your family have the comfort and joy of wonderful memories, and everlasting peace.
I remember John so well just like Janet Hemink Snow from Maplemere and Jr. High School. Although we were not really close friends, I, like everyone, recognized him for his kindness, maturity (although at the time I'm sure we didn't call it that) and of course, his brilliant mind. I extend my deepest sympathies to his family and hope they find comfort in hearing from us who knew him so many years ago and recognized how special he was.
