Susan Hillger, age 83, of Peebles, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 17, 2026. She was born on September 17, 1942, in Buffalo, New York, the daughter of the late Edgar Lucker and Janet (Goodbrand) Lucker.
Susan was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend whose life was marked by faith, compassion, and service to others. A 1960 graduate of Amherst High School in Buffalo, she continued her education at Syracuse University, earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in 1964. She later earned her Master's Degree in Administration from the University of Cincinnati.
Throughout her distinguished career, Susan dedicated herself to caring for others. She worked as a Registered Nurse and Licensed Social Worker, and for twenty years served as the Administrator of Crestwood Nursing Home in Hillsboro. Her leadership, kindness, and commitment to the well-being of those in her care left a lasting impact on countless residents, families, and coworkers.
Faith was at the center of Susan's life. She was a faithful member and founding member of Peace Lutheran Church in Hillsboro, where she remained active and involved until her passing. Her church family was a source of great joy and fellowship, and she found deep comfort in worshiping her Savior and serving others through her faith.
Susan found happiness in life's simple blessings. She loved tending to her garden, traveling to new places, preparing meals for those she loved, attending church functions, and gathering with family. Nothing brought her greater joy than spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, creating cherished memories that will be treasured for generations. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Susan is survived by her four children, John Hillger of Peebles, James (Kitty) Hillger of Peebles, David Hillger of Thorntown, IN, and Matthew Hillger of Hillsboro; six grandchildren, Christopher (Linda) Hillger, Scott (Hannah) Hillger, Katherine (Shawn) Kuhn, Samuel Hillger, Amelia Hillger, and Violet Hillger; eight great grandchildren, Luke Hillger, Zach Hillger, Titus Hillger, Celia Hillger, Gemma Hillger, Gideon Hillger, Elena Kuhn, William Kuhn, and many friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her two sisters, Jean (Lucker) Hagner and Ann (Lucker) Troolines.
A gathering of family and friends will be held from 1:00pm until time of Celebration of Life service at 1:30pm at the Peace Lutheran Church on July 18, 2026.
