Jon Michael Hartkopf

Jon Michael Hartkopf, 38, died Sept. 21, 1999, at Providence Alaska Medical Center.

A celebration of life will be from 2 to 4 p.m. today at the Valdez Civic Center.

Mr. Hartkopf was born Jan. 26, 1961, in Galveston, Texas. He moved to Alaska in 1989 to pursue a career at Alyeska Pipeline Service Co. He worked in Anchorage from 1989 to 1997, then in Valdez. In Valdez, Mr. Hartkopf worked for Chugach North Terminal Services at the Valdez Terminal for Alyeska Pipeline.

Mr. Hartkopf enjoyed woodworking as a hobby.

The family said: ''He was a beloved son-in-law, friend and a marvelous husband to Deborah. He touched many lives to enrich each one.'' Mr. Hartkopf is survived by his wife, Deborah; brother, Jay Hartkopf; poodle, Herbie; stepmother, Norma Hartkopf; stepsister, Jeri Coffman; aunt, Catherine and uncle Bill Ferguson; and aunt Nell and uncle Marvin Hartkopf.

Memorial donations may be sent to the Providence House, P.O. Box 196604, Anchorage 99519-6604; or KCHU Public Radio, Valdez 99686.

Arrangements by Kehl's Forest Lawn Mortuary and Crematory.

Jon was a great guy. He and Debbie were very kind in taking me out on their boat when I was in Valdez unacompanied by my family, so a bit lonely.

Jon set up my original e mail with Yahoo and gave me the e mail address "akbluesman@yahho.com which I use to this day.
