Eagle River resident Larry Lamar Parks, 62, died March 26, 2005, at his home of congestive heart failure. His wife and family were at his side.
A memorial service was conducted April 2 in Anchorage.
Mr. Parks was born Sept. 12, 1942, in Tinsman, Ark. At the age of 19, he joined the U.S. Army and began a distinguished 30-year career of service to the United States. He married LaNette on June 2, 1972, in Lawton, Okla.
Having been stationed in both Fairbanks and Anchorage at Fort Richardson, he retired from the Army in 1990 as a sergeant major. He began working for Alyeska Pipeline Service Co., where he worked until 2003. Afterward, he was employed by Agviq Minerals Management Services.
In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and RV traveling with his wife.
His family wrote: "Larry will be deeply missed. His kindness, generosity and love of life inspired all of us." Mr. Parks is survived by his wife, LaNette of Eagle River; sons and daughter-in-law, Todd and Melinda Parks of Anchorage, and Chad Parks of Dallas; mother, Carrie "Bell" Dodd; siblings, Sandra, Jerry "Snapper," Frank, D.C., Elva Jean, and Terry, all of Crossett, Ark., and their spouses; and many nephews and nieces.
