Terry Dale "Rabbitt" Carter
December 6, 1949 to June 6, 2000

Terry Dale Carter, affectively known to family and friends Rabbitt, was born December 6, 1949, in Bend, Oregon.  He grew up in Oregon and Idaho, and with him grew a tenacity for accomplishing what he set out to do and a will to live life to the fullest. 

He enlisted in the U.S. Army on October 30. 1969 and was assigned to the Republic of South Vietnam June 25, 1970 to June 24, 1971.  He then volunteered for a second tour in Vietnam and severd with the 101 Airborn Division, December 14 1971, to February 1972.  He was discharged from active military duty at Fitzsimons General Hospital, July 10, 1972, after recoverying from wounds received in combat.  

Rabbitt served his nation not only on active duty with the U.S. Army but as a member of the Alaska Army National Guard, the Alaska Air National Guard and the Marine Corp. Reserves.  He served in many positions during his career, including Helicopter Crew Chief, Infantry Squad and Platoon Sergeant, C-130 Load Master, Airborn Infrantry Patrol Sergeant. True to his loyalty and dedication to the soldiers he loved, he volunteered in 1991 for Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm and was assigned to the 256th Infantry Brigade, Fort Polk, Louisiana pending deployment to the Gulf.

Rabitt's work history includes two years as a Roughneckand Motorman for Nabor Drilling United on a drilling rig in Prudhoe Bay, one year as a Loader and Dozer Operator for Eagle Dome Rock for the State Highway Contract, three years as an Equipment Foreman for Bering Construction in Dutch Harbor.

His career at Alyeska Pipeline Service Company bagan in 1989 as a technician at the Valdez Marine Terminal, assigned to the Oil Movements and Storage Department. He eventually was made the Sr. Safety Specialist in Support Managment where he remained as Alyeska's own "Safety Rabbitt" until leaving to fight a battle of a different kind in 1999.

Rabbitt loved sky diving, scuba diving, skiing and riding any one of his three Harley Davidsons.  He is survived by his wife Carol McCarty, daughter Bethan, son Zac, and many, many friends and co-workers who will charish every moment spent with that "Wascally Wabbit."
