Dick Dore
November 9. 1945 - August 25, 2021
My name is Helen, and my brother was Dick Dore. On behalf of my siblings and myself I’m sorry to say our sweet brother passed this morning of congestive heart disease at 6am in Sacred Heart Hospital, Spokane WA.
He was admitted to the hospital Sunday morning on August 15th with chest pains and couldn’t breath. He had had a mild heart attack and remained in the hospital until today August 25th. He had gone through a battery of test through the week and coded Sunday evening August 22nd. He spent the rest of his time in the ICU until his passing today August 25th.
Our brother loved life, loved his family and friends with Dick friends were family it’s the way our family rolls. You all are a part of us because you were a part of Dick’s life. Dick served in the U.S. Air Force in England. He started building his lifelong dream car in Williston, ND, and completed it in Arizona. The beautiful car was named Lucille and he was very proud of her.
Love to each and everyone of you! Remember “good, good, good, good” or “yah”. You can take the boy out of North Dakota but you can’t take North Dakota out of the boy!

So sorry to hear this news. I worked with Dick in Valdez and as are often true of pipeline stories, you may not wish to take this one to his services.
We were tasked with isolating, cleaning and demobing Berth 1. Peak had drained our diesel line and Dick came to me and said "we're not gonna clean this line for ya".... I get that, noone wants to put shiney stuff in the water. I said well, get your shit and get outta here then.... couple of days later, Dick comes in my office with an invoice for demob costs. I said waht the hell is this, he says... well it's in our contract that you gotta pay me to get my shit and get outta here. OMG.... we laughed so hard. He was a good guy, looked out for his crew and his company. RIP Dick.

Dear Helen, we are saddened by this news. Dick was a prince of a man, someone I could count on for honest feedback as well as a good laugh. It’s been a little over a year since I last spoke to him. During that conversation, he reminded me of one of our earliest exchanges, which I’ll share here (it’s also G-rated!).
Shortly after Dick returned to Valdez in the early 2000’s, my husband Mike and I ran into him and brother Bob at the Totem Restaurant one Saturday morning. As was customary there, we shared a table for breakfast. It was fall time and we were all busy making ready for winter. For me, it was smoking salmon. I described my overnight process to brine the filets. Then, with the best dead pan face I could muster, I lamented that it was really tough to find rolling papers big enough to smoke the fish. Both Dore brothers’ jaws dropped, and I can't remember which one dropped his fork. Slowly, that big grin spread across Dick’s face, followed by his wonderful belly laugh. It was the only time I was able to catch him off guard.
I’m grateful to have known him.
