With heavy hearts, we share the passing of Thomas Alan Hartling of Cedarburg on Monday, June 17, 2024. He was 54 years old.
Thomas was born in Appleton on August 4, 1969, son of William and Jeanne Hartling. He was a graduate of Appleton West High School, Class of 1988, before attending the University of Minnesota, where he earned his Bachelors degree in education in 1992. He later earned his Masters degree from Cardinal Stritch University.
Tom accepted a teaching position at Thorson Elementary School in Cedarburg, WI. He was an outstanding educator and his love and passion for teaching touched many lives. Over 30 years, he dedicated his life to nurturing and making connections with students and the school community. While teaching, he met Krista Klimaitis-Brown, another colleague at Thorson. They were united in marriage on June 15, 2001, in Captiva, FL.
Tom was an avid reader and a life-long learner. When he was younger, Tom played soccer, a love he carried over as an adult, becoming a huge fan of Arsenal FC, in the English premier league. When he wasn’t teaching, Tom enjoyed traveling with his wife and family.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Krista of Cedarburg, stepson Travis (Jess) Brown, and granddaughter Eva Brown. He is also survived by his mother Jeanne Hartling, brother Tim (Gaby) Hartling, mother-in-law Mary Klimaitis, uncle Kevin (Jerrolyn) Carstens, sisters-in-law Karin (Gary) Perrault and Kathy Klimaitis, nephew Mateo, and nieces Nicole & Natalie (Jake). In addition, he leaves behind other family members and friends.
Tom was kind and caring with an infectious laugh and sense of humor. He listened and encouraged others and enjoyed telling stories that had an impact on everyone. His thoughtfulness and gentle spirit will be greatly missed, but the love he shared will continue to live in our hearts and memories forever.
A private family service was held and a Celebration of Tom’s life is being planned on August 4 at Cedar Creek Park.
