Lucien was a great friend .. we went all through school and confirmation together. After high school, he went on to serve his country as a U.S. Marine, and was killed in a helicopter crash in 1977. I remember how shocking that news was.
I meet Lucien when part of Boy Scout Troop 32 , we had great times together as young boys maturing, Lucien was a natural born leader! I remember him fondly!
I met Lucien through school and bowling, and he was a great, positive guy to be around, with guts and drive that somewhat belied his shorter stature. I envied him the old ('68?) Triumph Spitfire that he had, and going for a ride in it hooked me. A number of years later my wife and I bought and restored a Spitfire, and I thought of Lucien a number of times in relation to that. His death seemed to come so quickly after graduation, that I was stunned...life was just beginning. I miss you, my friend.
In March of 1977 I had been in the Marines about 7 months and was stationed at Camp Geiger, NC. One evening I had just finished chow and bought the local newspaper which came out in late afternoon. I began reading the story of 2 Marine helicopters crashing and was stunned to see that Lucien was one of the victims. Lucien was just 19 years old and unbeknownst to me was stationed only half a mile from where I was.
I worked with Lucien at Jewel/Osco in downtown Arlington Heights. I was surprised to learn he had enlisted in the Marines and stunned at his sudden death. It was my first reality check regarding our mortality. I think of him often with fond memories.
Lucien and I joined the Marines together, we helped each other get thru boot camp. I heard about his death while I was overseas. His helicopter crash in 1977 in a storm. It was very upsetting to hear about his death.

Lucien was a good friend and bowling buddy. He always had a smile and good word no matter how bad I was bowling.
