Oren Wingert Harrison Jr., 56 died at his home in Wicomico Church January 9, 2009.
Mr. Harrison was born June 24, 1952 to Oren W. and Mary L. Harrison. Originally form Arlington, he moved to Northumberland County in 1985. He owned and operated Turf Club and Ten Acre Nursery. In 2007, he graduated cum laude with a bachelors from Old Dominion University. He worked in residential services with Middle Peninsula Northern Neck Community Service Board in Saluda. His goal was to become a conselor to people
with addictions.
Having served on several Cursillo teams in the Epicopal Church, he was a founding member of the board that established the Kairos Prison Ministry in Virginia. He served on Kairos teams for over 10 years at the Buckingham Facility in Dillwyn. He was an active member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church and had served on the vestry as senior warden.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth LeMond Maxwell Harrison; three sons, Jeremy Roland Harrison, Jefferson Read Maxwell Harrison and Oren Wingert Harrison II, and a daughter, Elizabeth LeMond Harrison.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, January 15, at St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Fleeton with the Rev. Ted Tullis officiating. Interment will be in Wicomico Parish Episcopal Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 14, at the Currie Funeral Home in Kilmarnock.
