Chris, I hope in heaven you can read my thoughts about you. I was so looking forward to have a cold one with you at the reunion. A glass will be raised to you. Remember in sixth grade when you hit me in the head with a Duncan yoyo, big knot. God bless you and your family.
Your friend always

I've never been someone who got close to many people. Chris was a special friend at a time in life that I needed friends. We got into trouble together often, in and out of school. We never did things that would be harmful to others or serious. Just typical kid things. I smoked my first cigarrette with Chirs behind his house. He'd somehow gotten his hands on about half a pack. We got caught, I guess we forgot how we'd smell when we were done. Trouble seemed to be a constant companion for us both and we brought all of it on ourselves.

Chris was, from a very early age, the kind of guy I knew I could trust. He was the the kind of friend that would have your back even if it meant personal sacrifice or trouble for himself. I was once called out in Mrs. Barbour's Science class for something I hadn't done and she ordered me to Mr. Blanton's office for licks. I protested my innocence and explained I hadn't done it (this time). Chris was guilty (this time) but I wasn't going to snitch on him. She said "If you didn't do it who did?" I refused an answer and down to Mr. Blanton's office I went. As Mrs. Barbour and Mr. Blanton interrogated me and finally he told me to bend over, the door opened and Chris poked his head in. He was scolded and told to go back to the class. Mr. Blanton looked at Mrs. Barbour puzzled and asked "You told me Marty did this and you were sure, is that correct?" She said "Yes". Then he looked at Chris (he somehow knew why Chris was standing there) and said Chris do you have something to say? Chris said "Yes, Mr. Blanton, I did it. Marty didn't do anything". Mr. Blanton sent Chris and I back in the class and neither of us got licks. Mrs. Blanton never came back to the class that day, she stayed in Mr. Blanton's office until the bell rang. Chris was one of the best friends and best guys I ever knew. I've thought about him often over all these years. My many memories are all great ones. This is one of a hundred great stories and memories fresh in my mind of Chris and I growing up and looking for adventures but finding trouble. I still smile everytime I think of Chris. Love ya man!
