Margie was my blackberry picking buddy. Our secret spot, across the street from Edison School, yielded thumb sized berries we loaded into berry boxes. At that time we asked 50 cents per quart, and could readily sell them to my neighbor-wives. Once we got so excited with our dealings, there were no blackberries left for us! The next day we returned to our picking, this time just for our own pie. She was probably the first person I ever baked with and today I continue our tradition of baking summer berry desserts. Thank you Margie.

This would have been Margie's birthday! I spent a lot of time at 1002 Overlook Drive during elementary years. RIP, sweet girl!
