Tony (John) Kreimer

John “Tony” Kreimer passed away peacefully on December 30, 2020. He was born in 1943 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Ann Dunlap Sass and John Kreimer, Sr. He graduated from Menlo-Atherton High School in California and from the University of Cincinnati. He served in Viet Nam in the U.S. Army and was subsequently employed by B.F. Goodrich. Tony met the love of his life, Joan Foley, in a bar in Boston and there their journey began! They landed in Virginia Beach with one daughter, Elizabeth Mary, who was born in Portland, Maine, and another on the way. Joanna Grace was born while Tony managed a Spencer Gifts store at Pembroke Mall. He went on to pursue a career teaching Distributive Education in the Hampton Schools. When that program lost its luster, he became a civil service employee managing the MWR program for the Coast Guard station in Portsmouth. He also became an active member of the Coast Guard Reserve and often served special active duty under circumstances like 9/11. He was very proud of the time he served in the Coast Guard and retired in 2001. After retirement, he became an active member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary and had recently retired from Flotilla 57.

He leaves behind two daughters, Beth and Joanna, their husbands, Paul Hunt and Tim Evans, with whom Tony enjoyed many rounds of golf. His grandchildren, Megan and Kylie Hunt and TJ and Cooper Evans brought so many smiles to the time he had with them. He was predeceased by his parents and a sister, Lucy Kreimer, and is survived by his brothers, Jay Kreimer of Reno, NV and Oliver Sass of Mt. Shasta, CA.

Tony and Joan celebrated their 50th anniversary in August. Unfortunately, COVID got in the way of the grand celebration that was planned. Some date this summer; his ashes will be interred in River Bend Cemetery in Westerly, RI where we have spent many happy summers at Joan’s family’s summer home.
