I grew up with David from the 5th grade at Highland elementary School on North Ave. He, Wayne Ragan (Bass High), and I joined the boy scouts in 1964 in Troop 16 and became a trio - the three of us each were Highland Elementary's "crossing patrolman" (David & I were lieutenant, and Wayne Captain) helping kids before/after school cross the street near the school before there were 'school zones', raising/lowering the school flag every school day, just being cool. Wayne and I made Eagle, but David stopped at Life Scout. The three of us were constantly hanging out together in the summers, after school, and weekends - both liked to spend the nite on weekends or in summertime over at the Blackstones - my family had eight kids (8 was enough), so it was just a lot of kids all over the place all the time - my friends, my brother's friends, etc...

Graduating from Highland, David and I went to Grady, while Wayne was closer to Bass. In high school we three started the Explorer's Post 16 after leaving the boy scouts, but eventually the high school scene, cars, and other maturings had us drifting away from each other as our social interests became varied. Lost track with David after graduation from Grady, but ran into him again at the Grady reunion in 1991. Learned he got married and was working at Perimeter Ford as a salesman. Few years later I heard from my sister Debbie who used to date David, that he's passed away - saddening.

David was so outgoing and well balance but a bit mischievous. He had two older sisters, but was born after his siblings had grown up and left home, so he was in a sense an only child, starved for brothers sisters. He and his 'Duster', me and my 'Shelby', and Wayne and his 'Goat' (GTO) were the terror of Highland-Virginia for awhile. Those were the days - to be looked back on so very fondly ;-)
