I knew Carolyn at Morningside. She lived just a few houses from "Devils Dive" on the section of McLynn where her house was across a bridge over the creek. Carolyn was quiet. Her mother was vivacious and often I was a passenger in thier car from Morningside Elementary School to our neighborood...exiting the car on McLynn at Carolyn's bridge and walking up "Devils Dive" and Amsterdam to my house. I never crossed the bridge.
In Jean Holt's Fourth Grade Class, Carolyn is seated 2nd from the right. In Mrs Gray's 6th Grade she she is seated, again, 2nd from the right, in front of me. At Grady she appears in our 8th, and 9th grade ORATOR pictures between Joanne Weinman and Sam Werbin. However there is no photo in 10th, 11th or 12 grade....just her name. I reached out to Carolyn about our 50th Reunion through help from Carolyn Johnson Faglier who had been close to Carolyn and Carolyn's husband, Eddie, I understood that she wanted to come, but was not able to be there.
Quietly, Carolyn was part of our lives. She was a strong person, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother for 56 years. I'm convinced she did it quietly in the background and caused no harm to anyone as she and Eddie created a strong family where she and Eddie's marriage lasted for almost six decades. While I never crossed over the Welch's bridge, I can now see what was on the other side...and it is good.
