In ROTC our senior year, Johnny was my company commander.  He was definitely a good soldier, as he continued school at The Citadel, got his commission and then made the supreme sacrifice for his country.  In 2010 Carole and I visited the memorial to him.   I remember the article in the Atlanta Journal about his heroism when his burial was in March 1967.  Semper Fi!

I have so many fond memories of Johnny. He was in my dad's elementary band and was such a sweet and kind guy. When I moved and came to Southwest, I was so glad to see him again. I remember that after his mom died, he helped his dad raise all his siblings and never complained - he was a serving kind of young man. When he lost his life in Viet Nam, all the things he did for our country, revealed to all what a strong of heart man he was. When I travel to DC, I always make it a point to go by The Wall, and pay my respects to Johnny and all our other classmates that lost their lives there.  Johnny, you are the bravest and best of all. It was such an honor to know you so well.  Blessings.
