From the 2007 Annual Reports of the Royal Society of New Zealand

"2007 was also a very sad year with the passing of Peter Spratt, Senior Manager Education at the Royal Society of New Zealand. His passing was very sudden and deeply shocked his family, friends and colleagues. Peter was at the Royal Society for 14 years.

Peter was Senior Manager: Science and Education, since 1994 and was responsible for the promotion and support of science and technology education as well as the promotion and public understanding of science and technology. Peter led his team, with his quiet inspiring manner and huge raft of skills, to move the RSNZ’s achievements to new heights through his total dedication and belief that education information was the key to inspiring students and the public to learn about the sciences and technology.

Peter graduated from Auckland University in 1974 with an MSc (Hons eq Class 2) in Geology, the same year he gained his Diploma in Teaching. He followed up his love of teaching with a Diploma in Teaching from Massey University in 1982, which he completed while Head of Science at Wesley College. In between, he practised the art and craft of the classroom teaching Science at all secondary school levels."

Peter will always stay in my memory as the Goalie of the 2nd XI Hockey team ffrom 1965 to 1967.  Fearless and uncompromising he was the foundatiuon stone on which we built a dynamic attack and a very successful side.  He was also a damn good mate!

Vale!
