David Ray Ramsey David Ray Ramsey, age 59, of Austin, Texas, passed away on Sunday, May 13, 2012, on Mother's Day. David was born in Austin, on March 30, 1953, to Billy and Doniece Ramsey. David faced many physical difficulties in life, as he was born with the birth defect, spina bifida, paralyzed from the waist down. He led a life of courage, loyalty, and service to friends and family. His personal attitude about life and relating in a kindway to others, extended far beyond his physical limits. His parents provided a special loving, supportive home, as long as they could. David graduated from Casis Elementary, Lamar Junior High, and then McCallum High School in 1971. He was employed for many years as an equipment technician at the Texas Department of Health, Bureau of Emergency Management, where he had a core of special friends. David enjoyed watching TV sports and Longhorn games. He enjoyed fishing, especially at Rockport and Port Aransas. He enjoyed eating out with friends and insisted he knew all the best restaurants in Austin, all "world famous". He was the founder and coordinator of a friends group, the Saturday Morning Breakfast Club. David lived for the past three years at Retirement and Nursing Center (RNC), on Burnet Lane, where the staff provided supportive help for David's many needs. We appreciate their great service. David was a member of the University Avenue Church of Christ, the church where his parents and grandparents Ramsey attended. David is survived by his sister, Vickie and Norman Alford of Round Rock, and brother, John and Becki Ramsey of Austin; niece Lindsey and Brad Henson of Ft. Worth, nephew Jason and Cindy Alford of Georgetown, nephew Gregory and Laura Ramsey of Corinth, and nephew Kenneth Ramsey of San Antonio. He is also survived by very special friends, Miklon and Peggy Rutherford. Miklon met David at Lamar Junior High, and they were close friends ever since, communicating almost daily. Funeral services will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish Chapel at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16, 2012, with burial by his parents at Austin Memorial Park Cemetery, 2800 Hancock Drive. Pallbearers are Jason Alford, Gregory Ramsey, Kenneth Ramsey, Craig Odom, Kip Ramsey, and Kevin Ramsey. Special Honorary Pallbearers are Miklon Rutherford and Jim Acker. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Christian Service Center, 1903 University Avenue, Austin, Texas, 78705, or the charity of your choice .
