In Memory

Linda Crume (Davis)

From Heather Benton, Linda Crume Davis' Daughther. Linda was so sweet and lovely:

This is my beautiful mom. She passed away today at around 9:00 AM. She battled hard against lung cancer. It eventually spread to her liver and that's when it all went downhill fast. We found out about the diagnosis on Valentine's Day this year. I'll always remember, I was in the airport on the way to a business trip. She told me not to freak out. All I wanted to do was go to Austin to be with he...r. Almost 7 months later she passed. She was my best friend. Anyone who was a friend of mine growing up and during my teens will remember we had that typical teenage turmoil. But after that we became so incredibly close. We talked daily. I don't know how I'll do life without her. She was such a beautiful soul, and I always had that piece of safety of, "I'm going to go call my mom." I could always confide in her. I spent the last 3 weeks with her. I temporarily left my new job, went to Austin, and just devoted all my time to her. The first 2 weeks of that I did everything I could for her, as I know she did for me when I was young. I fed her, gave her water, did her hair, brushed her teeth, and gave her mini-facials every day. She loved that and it made her feel good. I wish I could do that for her every day of my life. But she stopped needing that help in the last week. She was such a beautiful and hard-working person. She never ever wanted to quit. That's why she held on for so long in the end too. This post is really for family and close friends. The ones who really want to know what we've been through. I just wanted to share. Other than that I'm sure you all know that I'm not one to usually share much on here. But she deserves an announcement and a tribute. I'll love you forever mom.

DAVIS, Linda Kay Crume Linda Kay Crume Davis passed away peacefully September 7, 2017 at the age of 64 after a short battle with cancer.

Linda was born June 17, 1953 in Austin, Texas to architect Herbert Crume and his wife Carol Crume. Linda graduated from McCallum High School in 1971 and attended Trinity University in San Antonio before transferring to the University of Texas and graduating with a bachelor's degree in Art Education. She went on to teach nine years at Leander Middle School, instilling in her students an enduring love of art and design. In 1983, she married her former husband, Stephen E. Davis. They had one daughter, Heather Desiree Davis (m. Benton) in 1988.

After Heather was born, Linda returned to UT Austin to earn a degree in Interior Design, graduating Magna cum Laude. Linda worked as a Senior Interior Designer for Patti Riley-Brown, Inc. for fifteen years enhancing homes with her personal and professional sense of style. She completed design projects with John Williams Interiors and Copenhagen Imports, working with her clients up until just days before her death. She was an honored member of the American Society of Interior Design, earning a Design Excellence Award for New Residence, 2008; ASID Award of Merit, 2003; and Design Excellence Award for Show House Parade/Model, 2003. She was committed to her clients and took pride in multiple local and national design projects.

Outside of her career, she enjoyed a quiet life centered on gardening, art, and her cat Kokomo. She will always be respected for the untold number of hours she devoted to the care of her parents in their last years.

Linda is survived by her daughter Heather Benton; son-in-law Scott Benton; mother Carol Crume, who died six days after Linda's death; brother Randall Crume; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Special thanks go to those who helped Linda as her health declined, including oncologist Dr. Kathryn Hudson, Seton Central Oncology doctors and nurses, Hope Hospice of New Braunfels, and Vivian Edwards who helped the family take care of Linda at the end. Special thanks also go to Linda's friends and neighbors who took care of Koko and the dozens of plants she had to leave behind; and to the many friends who called and texted throughout her illness, reassuring her that she was not alone but in their thoughts and prayers.

Heather extends deep appreciation to her stepmother Carol Pierce-Davis for serving as her eyes and hands, caring for her mother at home and in the hospital when Heather could not be there. Finally the Harmony Group of Brookdale Northwest Hills Senior Living thanks Ms. Davis for her gift of plants to their Harmony Garden. She offered the plants in hopes they would bring the residents as much joy and life as they had brought her.

I am saddened to hear about Linda. She was in my first grade class at Highland Park Elemtary, (Ms Bitters). She was a kind and gentle soul with much artistic talent. My sincere condolences to her family  and friends.

We are so sorry for your loss.  My husband Jon and I had the opportunity  to spend some time with Linda the day after the reunion - we all agreed Frisco was the right meeting place. I was amazed that she looked the same as she did in High School!   We talked for at least an hour and we had some great stories to share from when we both lived on Chippero. Linda was so composed and straight forward to tell us about her illness.

Linda's daughter, met with me a month ago and we discovered, her daughter worked less than 1 mile from my house in Katy, TX.  Linda and I had talked about trying to get our kids together. It makes me remember to stay in touch with our friends and relatives.

I am so sorry for your family's loss.  Linda was one of the sweetest people I have ever known.  I will never forget our year as roommates at Saint Mary's Hall in San Antonio during the 10th grade.
